With the idea to let our citizens help in making the Urasoe City homepage, in November 1999 we invited public participation to illustrate the kings who appear on our home page, "Kingdom of the Sun - Urasoe
City." As a result, we received entries from four applicants including a high school student. All the illustrations of the kings were exceptional in their individuality and all were easy to relate to. After consulting with a history expert, we selected Mr. Yoshitaka Miyasato, of the Iso area of Urasoe, to be the illustrator.

My job is related to design, but I don't often get to illustrate. That's why I was very surprised when I was informed that I was selected. This time, I was offered an opportunity to paint four kings. My greatest impression was that through this I really came to enjoy the process of creating the illustrations and gained knowledge of the historical background of each king. I have become more interested in the history and culture of Urasoe City. Also, I would be very happy if the kings that I painted were accessible to everyone. If I were offered another opportunity, I would like to try to draw the kings of Urasoe with yet another approach. |
